This was done for an assignment I no longer remember the guidelines for. This was in the Introduction to Photoshop class at OSU that every Art Major was required to take. It wasn’t the instructor’s fault that some of us were qualified to teach the class. I’m no Photoshop God, but I could do this intro stuff in my sleep. Conveniently, this meant I could try to make something meaningful without the technical aspects being an obstacle.

Seven months and some change after Bush II’s declared war on my birthday, it was becoming fairly clear to everyone involved that the war wasn’t going quite how we’d been promised it would. This image was my reaction to the situation. My instructor told me I should submit it to AdBusters, but I never got around to it then, and I imagine the subject it pretty well done to death by now.

Byck & Symbiote Crosshatch

Byck & Symbiote

At one of the few clearly planned points in Byck’s story, he becomes the host to an alien symbiote in the belly of a long dead world. More dramatic crosshatching here. I totally bungled the torso anatomy, but I really liked how the legs and feet turned out, so it wasn’t a total failure.

Average of Miami Girls

Average Miami Girl

I saw a lot of attractive young ladies when I visited the University of Miami (yes, in Florida). A lot. The thing was, they seemed to all look pretty much alike. This may have been because I didn’t know anybody. Maybe Miami occupies a much narrower chunk of economic spectrum than OSU, leading to less variation in clothing and hair fashion and similar body types? I drew this while waiting for my host to get out of class, and I swear it seemed like half the girls who walked past me looked like this.

Drawn and inked in my sketchbook on University of Miami’s campus. Colored once I got back to Columbus, OH.

Cartoony Naphilah

This is my character from a Shadowrun campaign. She’s based on a character in Byck’s continuity. I drew this particular version while waiting for my plain to Miami, FL. I photoshopped her at the University of Miami Library two days later. The dramatic crosshatching is an experiment with my Micron pens.
